Toolbox

A toolbox is a block from the Caverns and Chasms mod that stores items with durability (and horse armor). Like a shulker box, a toolbox retains its contents in item form after being broken. Like most other copper blocks, toolboxes oxidize naturally and can be waxed with honeycomb.

Obtaining

Breaking

Toolboxes are mined efficiently with a pickaxe, but break moderately fast and drop themselves with an empty hand (or any other item).

Crafting

A toolbox can be crafted from 5 blocks of copper and 1 copper ingot.

Waxing

Toolboxes of various stages of oxidation will turn into their waxed variants after using a honeycomb item on them. This will stop the toolbox block from oxidizing.

Scraping

Using an axe on a waxed toolbox will scrape off the wax, causing the toolbox to begin oxidizing as normal. Using an axe on an unwaxed toolbox will scrape off one layer of oxidation.

Lightning Strike

Non-waxed toolboxes are completely deoxidized when struck by lightning. Nearby copper blocks will also deoxidize randomly.

Usage

Storage

All toolboxes have 9 inventory slots. Like a shulker box, they retain their contents in item form when broken. However, only items with durability (or horse armor) may be placed inside of them. Other items can also be stored if they are tagged as caverns_and_chasms:additional_toolbox_tools. This tag is empty by default.

Toolboxes can be oriented in all cardinal directions and placed either on the floor or hanging from the block above. When opened whilst hanging, the toolbox's base will come down, instead of the lid going up.

They cannot be stored inside bundles or shulker boxes.

Toolboxes break and drop themselves when pushed by a piston. They also interact with hoppers as normal. Droppers can insert items into toolboxes if that item can normally be placed inside a toolbox.

Trivia

  • Piglins become hostile towards players who mine or open any toolboxes.
