Chest Loot

Golden Buckets spawn in Ruined Portal chests at the same rate as Enchanted Golden Apples.

Container

Fully using a filled golden bucket will return an empty golden bucket to the player's inventory. If a Golden Lava Bucket is consumed as fuel in a furnace variant, an empty golden bucket will be returned in the fuel slot.

Hoppers will remove any empty golden buckets in the fuel slot of a furnace feeding into it.

Usage

Fluid Pickup and Storage

Non-full golden buckets can be used to pick up water, lava, and powdered snow to return their respective buckets, identical to normal normal buckets. They can also be used to milk cows, mooshrooms, goats, or yaks.

All filled golden buckets can contain three instances of a fluid, represented by a "level" constant. When fluid is consumed, "level" will decrease by 1. When fluid is added to the bucket, "level" will increase by 1. When "level" is 3, the bucket is full. If "level" would decrease to 0, an empty golden bucket is returned.

Using non-full golden buckets on instances of their contents they contain will pick those pick up those contents, increasing the bucket's level. Sneak-using the bucket will place the fluid instead. A filled golden bucket's item sprite will change depending on their filled level.

Golden buckets may contain only one type of fluid. Thus, it is impossible to pick up lava with a water bucket, milk cows with a powdered snow bucket, et cetera. Unlike normal buckets, Golden water buckets cannot be used to catch fish.

Efficient Crafting

Filled golden buckets can be used as a substitute for any recipe calling their respective normal bucket counterparts. Only one filled level will be consumed per craft, meaning a fully filled golden bucket will be good for three crafts total.

This can significantly speed up crafting items such as Flooded Dripstone Shingles, lava lamps, and milk bottles, cutting the required operations by three.

Dispenser

Dispensing filled golden buckets will place their contents at the block in front of the dispenser, if there is available space. Dispensing empty or half-filled golden buckets into their respective fluids will result in that fluid getting picked up, increasing the bucket's filled level and removing the fluid from the world.
